Draw On Leather

March 5, 2015 by Whitney Bai

I love leather and watercolor, and I wanted to combine them together. I decided to try using waterproof pen and leather dye to create art on veg tanned leather to make it more fun. Here it goes~ After I got the painting on leather down, I added other leather pieces and hardware to make it a functional bag with two compartment.

Leather Coffee Cup Sleeve

March 2, 2015 by Whitney Bai

I’m thinking of a way to make coffee sleeve more desirable—reusable, comfortable, convenient and makes you smile.  A pocket to put your coffee shop punch card in~~~ When you are not using this, just hook it on your bag….or on your keys. Like it? Let me know:)

Beauty Marks

November 30, 2014 by Whitney Bai

Beauty industry has a new way of looking at people’s skin abnormality. Beauty marks, they call them. Flawlessness is out, perfect imperfections are in. Leather, is from skin too, and it has “imperfections”, such as fat marks, blemishes, freckles, stamps, wrinkles and scars, yet they provide outstanding carving, embossing and dyeing characteristics. Most of these imperfections are considered what make a piece of leather “unusable” and get cut off and discarded. As long as cows are getting killed by meat […]

Leather Shoulder Bag

November 3, 2014 by Whitney Bai

Process:   Cut out leather.Use every uneven leather on the inside to minimize waster. (I learned from the leather workshop that most high end companies won’t accept leather with flaws even they are perfect fine when used strategically.) Prepare hardware. Cut out strap.Dye the strap into dark brown color.Ready to get stitched together.Inside saddle stitches.Attached second tone flap.Finished!

Leather Keychains

November 2, 2014 by Whitney Bai

Wanted to tested the new set of stamps I got. Vegetable tanned leather takes stamps really well. I wet the surface and waited for it to return it’s dry color. Placed the stamp and hit it with a hammer several times. Then I lightly painted the indent to make it more visible. For this I dyed the leather first and finished the edges. Then I wet the surface, stamped the leather and attached the hardware. A teabag inspired tea bag […]
